Today marks the launch of the Young Black Filmmakers Fund, a vital new initiative created by past Windrush Caribbean Film Festival award winner Alex Kayode-Kay. In partnership with TikTok UK, the fund is designed to support emerging Black British filmmakers aged 18–30 to tell the stories they want to tell.

The fund offers a breakthrough platform for young filmmakers, complete with mentorship, production support, and national visibility. It’s a call to creative voices across the UK who are ready to move.

Submissions are open from 1 May to 1 August 2025 via the My Smash Media platform: app.mysmash.media.

Selected filmmakers will also have the chance to pitch live at London Breeze Film Festival, receive mentoring from Alex Kayode-Kay, and premiere their film at The Ritzy.

Further support includes a festival run package from Festival Formula, marketing posters by Dream Factory, and broadcast on ShortsTV.

This is a career-changing opportunity for Black British filmmakers aged 18–30 who are ready to stop waiting and start creating.
